Junior Gathering in 2020

Dear Participants and Carers of,

We hope you are all well.

Junior Gathering was due to take place this August, but because of COVID-19 we are very sad to say it will not be possible to hold the event this summer.

Our usual venue will not be available for us to use, and we haven’t been able to identify anywhere else suitable.

We do not think we could run the event in a socially-distanced way that would keep people safe. Along with FSSE trustees and our staff team, we carefully considered what alternatives we could offer. After sitting with the idea we didn’t feel an online event would best serve the young people who build our shared community each summer.

We know this may be quite upsetting to some, and we are aware it is going to leave a funny Quaker shaped hole in the summer. And it is with heavy hearts we have made this decision, but keeping everyone safe is the most important thing – so next year we can come back together better than ever.

If you are missing your Quaker Young Person fix London Link is holding fortnightly virtual events.

Senior Conference 2020 Moves Online

Senior Conference is an event for Quakers aged 14-18, this year taking place completely online! From Saturday 15th to Wednesday 19th of August you are invited to join us in exploring the theme of ‘Understanding Our Place as a Religious Society’ with the help of speakers and discussions, alongside all the normal extra bits Conference always has to offer.

Each day will consist of prologue in the morning, a theme session, an ents activity, time for base groups and workshops, with an epilogue each evening. The new Conference host website will act as a community hub where conferees can come together, share their experiences and reflect on sessions.

We recognise that this isn’t your typical Conference, but with your commitment, we can recreate the sense of community that the event is so loved for. We hope to see you there!

We don’t want any conferees to miss the event because they lack any equipment. If you think access to technology might prevent you joining Conference, whether through lack of a device or internet connectivity, please let us know ASAP via the contact below and we will see what we can do.

There will be no registration fee but we would welcome a donation of £20, to cover expenses and help ensure all interested young people are able to access the event.

Apply online now!

Covid-19 Update

The information below has now been superseded by a more recent post

Dear Friends,

We hope you are all well.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, these are very uncertain times. We wanted to let you know that we still very much hope to run our events this year (2020). We are monitoring government and other advice closely.

We know how much the events mean to the young people and the wider Quaker community, so we’ll be working hard behind the scenes to plan to run nourishing, fun, inclusive and safe Quaker events.

We’ll be sure to keep you all updated if plans change.

In the meantime please fill in an online application form for Senior Conference and Junior Gathering  if you haven’t done already!

As is our normal practice, cancellations of applications can be fully refundable up to a week before the event. We will look at any other requests on a case-by-case basis. We are not currently going to be asking for any deposit. This note supersedes other information already given out.

Please get in touch with us on info @ fsse.org.uk if you have any questions.

In Friendship,

FSSE Trustees and Clerk
Michael W, James B, Anna T, Kathy G, Margaret L, Bryony R, Tessa B, David H, Bernard L, Peter S, Gwendolen C, Candia C and Oliver W
