UN Simulation

Summer School was able to take part in a UN Simulation that would decide the future of our planet. There had been evidence of extra-terrestrial life and each country had to argue whether Earth should send out nuclear weapons into space, send some but not nuclear weapons or no weapons at all. We were divided into groups of varying sizes to represent the different countries: Great Britain, United States of America, China, Brazil, India, Bahrain, Togo, Suriname, Haiti, Greece, Bolivia, Japan and Azerbaijan.  We were given information about our countries and envelopes which stated our countries’ opinions on the matter. To earn points for our countries each group had to participate in fun challenges which included picking up objects with our teeth, carrying water with teaspoons, memorising objects on a tray, something to do with marshmallows and of course making our countries’ flag and designing a national anthem. Each country had certain amounts of resources to trade with to buy materials, depending on the prosperity of their countries. Bahrain surprised everyone by coming 5th.  Beth, a Bahraini, said that “It was fun pretending to be other people”. The discussions were exciting with many different opinions voiced convincingly. It was an incredible evening and enjoyed thoroughly by all of the young people.

Imran man

All through summer school, a legend has risen; Imran. Master of tai-chi, Imran can often be found doing his martial hobby on the front lawn.  Everyone loves Imran, and Imran loves everyone. Here at Summer School Scoop we’ve got an exclusive article on Imran’s latest love interest: Margret, former Chorus girl and General babe. She just goes mad for his ninja moves and charming smile. They can often be found sitting in the shade of the trees and telling stories of their days of burlesque and martial arts films. Celebrity couple name? Magman. The full extent of Maggie’s passion is yet to be revealed, but the big kiss is surely coming soon.

The Barmy Barn Dance

Every year at Summer School the Scampering Rogues come and teach us all lots of classic, original, barn dances. All friends got very, very into it, and lots of smiles were shared. There was a very energetic atmosphere, and everyone learnt some barn dancing by the end of it.  It brought friends together with enthusiasm.

The excitement was rising as more and more friends got onto their feet.  People paired up with other people, some people even danced with friends they didn’t know that well.   It was a very inclusive event that made people feel welcome in every way. There were lots of dances and everyone got stuck in, even if they weren’t sure what to do. However, this didn’t matter it was very relaxed. Sometimes us Quakers were very loud. Poor guy…..

Rebecca says ‘I thought it was good fun, and the band was really fun.’

Rachel says ‘It was an amazing experience.’

Beth says ‘It was the most fun thing at summer school this whole week.’

Matthew says ‘It was very good.’

Lila says ‘It was really fun.’

Amanda says ‘ It was really good fun, and lots of people were smiling and having a good time.’

So, overall it was a very enjoyable event which brought a lot of giggles to the community of friends. But we all had good fun, and all through the evening people were full of excitement.
