Quizzical Quakers!

Expectations were high as everyone piled into the assembly hall to be quizzed about Quakers! Teams were formed, and ‘interesting’ team names were thought up, such as Nobbly Bobbly, Burnt Sausages and Wow, as everyone prepared themselves for an evening of fun and entertainment. There were many different rounds, ranging from the Olympics to staff gossip. Soon everyone had got competitive and the competition was on to win the first prize. At first, it seemed as if certain teams were sure to come in first, second, and third places, but towards the end of the evening the scoreboards started to shift as teams unexpectedly started scoring high points. The race was on to win the trophy. Tension was high as the final scores were read out, with no-one certain about who was going to win. Trophies were awarded to the excited winning teams, with a first place prize, and a joint second. Although every team wanted to win, everyone had got something out of the evening, and learnt something new, such as which member of the staff used to be a chorus girl, and what the difference is between a frog and a toad.

Lila says ‘It was like “Yeah! Woo hoo!” ‘.

‘I found it really fun, and I got really stuck in and it was fun to learn things with my friends.’ says Amanda.

Lydia commented ‘It was really fun!’

‘It was really fun and Samantha was awesome!’ says Bethan.

Overall, it was a fun and lively evening for everyone, and the Quakers had definitely been Quizzed!

Suss that Secret Friend

Secret friends is an important part of summer school because it brings friends together, it has a sense of mystery and surprise. When you arrive, you create your own pouch related to the theme ‘Board Games’ which is theme of the disco. In the hall we all said our names, so that one and another knew each other, so that they had an idea of who they would be giving presents, hugs, notes too. The secret is you don’t know who is giving you presents, at the end of the week the fate is revealed.

We think it is good because, it helps people to settle in knowing they have someone caring for them, and that they will know that they will always have a surprise to put a smile on their face. Not many people have worked out who their secret friend is, but are pondering and investigating who it could be.

Everyday friends go to check if there pouch is filled with gifts. Gwen states ‘I love the idea of secret friends, and it is really cool and happy, and it makes me smile.’ Chris made another short but snappy comment ‘it’s good.’ So overall everyone is very happy about secret friends and we all get stuck in!

Hug Tie Hubbub

Hugging is a big part of summer school, so we have the hug tie. Which is where you wear a tie, the ‘hug tie’ and if someone hugs you, then they get the tie; it goes on from there. It makes the atmosphere fun, friendly and loving. Friends are so fond on the hug tie, sometimes they even chase after the wearer. The first person to wear the tie was Boop, who explained the how the hug tie works at lunch on Monday. She wasn’t wearing the tie long, as soon it was passed on to the next person that hugged her.

The hug tie has mixed feelings. We had a word with Gwen, and she commented ‘I don’t like ties, but I like the hugs, it is because I have to wear a tie for school, and they look like the Gryffindor ties from Harry Potter.’ We had a word with Chris and he gave a short but effective comment……’ It’s sick.’ Matt said ‘I think it’s a great idea’. Will gave another short and snappy comment…..’It’s Epic’.

It’s only the second day, and many have had the tie already, but we know the tie will continue its journey from neck to neck, but for now, that is all we have on the subject of the world wide legend of the HUG TIE!
